World Trade Center Memorial Museum
New York, USA
To help conceive and verify the design of the exhibition spaces for the World Trade Centre Memorial Museum at Ground Zero we developed a set of visualisation and analysis tools in collaboration with Davis Brody Bond Aedas. One delicate issue for the architects was the planning of the experience along a ramp through exhibition spaces and the placing of exhibits. In particular the dramatic use of changes in size and direction of the visual field in a volumetric environment is difficult to measure.
In response, we developed three-dimensional methods for visibility analysis and a measurement for visual relations of objects in space. To understand the visual experience of a visitor, a visualization and measurement application was developed that simulates the visitors’ view cones as they move through the museum along the ramp.
