HK Int'l Airport, Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal

Hong Kong

The new Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal occupies a site area of approximately 10 hectares in the Hong Kong International Airport and will be equipped with a state-of-the-art Materials Handling System (MHS) that could handle an annual air cargo throughput capacity of 2.6 million tonnes.

The total development cost for the project is approximately $4.8 billion and the facility targets to commence operation in the second half of 2011.

Due to the extremely tight programme and the large size of the building, CX have decided to make use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to allow for efficient coordination between all main disciplines (architectural, structural, E&M, MHS and etc).

It is aspired that the additional air cargo handling capacity and facilities provided by the new terminal will help to further reinforce Hong Kong International Airport’s position as the world’s premier international airfreight hub.

Aedas is the architect of the terminal, led by Meinhardt as the lead consultant.
