The interior design of The Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai follows the hotel’s theme of “Ye Shanghai,” evoking historical references to Shanghai as a melting pot of different cultures from the east and the west, and developing a cosmopolitan character unique to its local milieu.
Space planning of the renovation of the suites was particularly challenging owing to the existence of pipe and duct chases which had to be retained not only to save on construction costs but also to minimize the disturbance to hotel operations during construction. This resulted in interesting layouts of suite bathrooms, responsive to clientele convenience and distinct in compartmentation.
Adaptation of electronic connectivity is subtly incorporated as a minimum standard to satisfy the tech-savvy corporate and family guests. Layout flexibility was likewise a major driver in the design process so as to offer a wider spectrum of services to loyal patrons. All furniture is custom-designed to suit the theme of each suite.
