The Terminal 8 West Development comprises a 6 storey administration building, entry and exit gatehouses and canopies, maintenance building and ancillary facilities.

The buildings were required to provide working accommodation for operational staff within an industrial marine environment and were developed within tight financial constraints.

The buildings were designed not only to respond to the utilitarian nature of their function but to also capitalise on their highly exposed site adjacent to the proposed Route 3 and Hong Kong Island beyond. The materials further pursued these aims with the predominantly steel gatehouses and maintenance building being clad with lightweight silver profiled metal decking and the concrete structure of the administration building being clad with ceramic tiles of varying module and colour.
