Aedas has been commissioned to develop a cladding concept for the proposed extension to the existing Multi Storey Car Park at Manchester Piccadilly Station.
The original car park is currently running at full capacity and Network Rail has identified the need to increase the available spaces.
The proposed car park extends the horizontal floor plates over an area, which is currently, only surface parking. Our concept was to use a series of six rainscreen cladding panels of varying depth and size to create a random form, which gives the building an interest and visual relief.
The panels are a combination of solid, perforated and louvered panels to allow the required cross flow for naturally ventilation car park. The material for the panel is corten steel, which respects surrounding brickwork but gives the car park a modern image. The car park is set onto a solid base which highlights the various uses contained within.
