Construction of Aedas’ design for the Abu Dhabi Investment Council Headquarters begins on site this week.
The practice’s appointment to design the 25-storey twin office towers followed an invited international competition won by Aedas in 2007.
The design concept reflects the client’s aspiration to build a pair of office towers that will serve as a landmark for the city of Abu Dhabi while reflecting the aspirations of the 2030 Abu Dhabi Plan.
Linked via a podium, the towers, which comprise over 75,000sqm of accommodation, will accommodate approximately 2,100 occupants.
“Our design concept was generated from a mathematically pre-rationalised form which was in turn derived from Islamic principles” said Aedas Director Peter Oborn.
” A key feature of the design is the application of a diaphanous screen that envelopes the most exposed aspect of the building in the form of a dynamic ‘Mashrabiya’, opening and closing in response to the sun’s path, significantly reducing solar heat gain and providing a more comfortable internal environment.”
