Aedas celebrates its win in 2010 American Institute of Architects Hong Kong Design Awards with Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, International Terminal honored with the Merit Award for Interior Design. The project is designed by Ken Wai, Managing Director of PRC and Steven Thor, Director of PRC and Yuchang Chang, Associate, being the project architect. The airport is built on the shore of Qiantang River in the Xiaoshan district and is 27 km away from downtown Hangzhou.
The design brief looked for an architectural interior that can express Hangzhou to the world that is memorable. It strived to create a sense of place that can represent the cultural heritage of the city.
The airport was formally opened in July 2010 and hailed as an instant success by peers in the industry as functional, elegant and presented Hangzhou with a piece of architectural space that draws inspiration from their past.
