Kim Chuan Depot Launched into Service

15/7/2009

28th May saw Singapore's SMRT open the first stage of its new Circle Line. As an integral part of this opening, Kim Chuan Depot in Upper Paya Lebar, Singapore is the world's largest underground depot. Aedas along with TY-Lin, DE-Consult, DP-Architects & Parsons Brinkerhoff, provided the concept through to pre-final deliverables and supported the implementation of the depot through to completion.

Measuring 800 metres in length, 160 metres in width, the depot occupies 11 hectares of land and costs $295 million. It can stable up to 77 trains. The Circle Line provides 29 new stations (currently under-construction with Aedas involvement) and links all radial rapid transit lines running into the city. It will interchange with the existing North South and East West Line, as well as the North East Line.
