Singapore Civic & Cultural Centre Triumphs in Asia Pacific Commercial Property Awards

25/5/2009

Award name : Asia Pacific Commercial Property Awards – The Architecture Award
Award date: 2009
Awarded by: Asia Pacific Commercial Property Awards

Designed by Andrew Bromberg, Executive Director, The Singapore Civic & Cultural Centre is a nine-storey building that mixes the different uses together. According to Andrew, one will encounter cultural, civic and retail experiences all under one roof walking through the building. The ambiguous shape of the floating project offers multiple reading and elicits varying interpretations from around the world.

The Singapore Civic & Cultural Centre is highly sustainable through its approach to minimize air conditioned spaces. The retail, civic square, outdoor theatre as well as the pre-function of the banqueting and meeting room facilities are all open air along with the Grand Foyer. To let in natural light, light defusing insulated glass was chosen to be the material for the shell which protects the building.

The enormous 62,000 square metre development will be completed in 2011.
