Aedas’ Thistley Hough High School Groundbreaking Ceremony took place today

8/9/2011

The new Thistley Hough High School, designed by Aedas, accommodates 1,050 pupils aged 11-16 and is designed to deliver a truly transformational learning environment that supports its Media and Visual Arts specialist status.

The new school will house learning, community and leisure facilities which are accessible through a light filled multi-purpose central heart space. Dedicated teaching accommodation sits either side of three
three storey heart spaces and has been designed to support the schools comprehensive learning strategy which is focused on a more personalised approach to learning and teaching.

These flexible classrooms enable a variety of teaching and learning styles to be accommodated within one area and are able to easily adapt to future pedagogical changes. Smaller individual pastoral and break out spaces are scattered throughout the building providing teachers the flexibiliity to further explore pupil specific learning styles and adding to the range of spaces available. The organisation of these spaces and the orientation of the building are guided by the principles of energy efficient design in schools and passive solar design and thus Thistley Hough High School’s design achieves BREEAM Good.
