Judit Kimpian speaks at UK Trade & Investment Mission

11/3/2010

UKTI’s trade mission in Qatar and Abu Dhabi brought industry leaders together to promote UK businesses within the region. Judit Kimpian, Aedas Head of Sustainability and Advanced Modelling, presented to a selected audience of local developers, engineers, authorities in Abu Dhabi and Qatar last week, alongside Buschow Henley, Benoy and Make Architects and sustainability specialists.

Kimpian’s presentation entitled Green Buildings: Investment, Energy, Life Cycle explained how “capturing designs in an interactive digital environment can engage clients, designers, occupants and operators in sustainable design decisions and inform the development of design standards and legislation.” Here she displayed how, as part of Aedas’ investment in sustainable solutions, the practice has developed bespoke tools to demonstrate the impact of major briefing and design decisions on a building’s carbon footprint and its relationship to cost.

Judit also presented examples of the Tall Building Simulation (TBS) model which provides an interactive platform for clients and design teams to evaluate the consequences of shape, form and briefing decisions on the energy use, embodied energy and capital / life-cycle cost of a tall building, before the majority of information required for a sustainability assessment is typically available. The Tall Building Model has been the result of a collaborative partnership between Aedas R&D, Arup, Hilson Moran and Davis Langdon.
