The VITA shelving system designed by Aedas R&D Computational Design and Research Group, in collaboration with Massimo Mariani, for MDF Italia has been shortlisted by the Italian Association of Industrial Design (ADI) for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro design prize - the most important award in this field in Europe. The prize aims to acknowledge and promote quality in the field of industrial design.
The system consists of five shelving modules that can be configured according to the user’s requirements. To generate arrangements of modules, Aedas Computational Design Group developed an interactive web application allowing the user to playfully participate in the design process.
The application algorithm is based on a branching system that can be observed in plants.
