This modular shelving system, designed by Aedas R&D Computational Design and Research in collaboration with Massimo Mariani, is called Vita as a reference to the ‘Game of Life’ created by the mathematician John Conway in the late sixties. The Game of Life simulates the transformations of patterns over generations based on cellular configurations.
Vita consists of five shelving modules that can be configured according to the user’s requirements. To generate arrangements of modules, we developed an interactive web application allowing the user to playfully participate in the design process.
The application algorithm is based on a branching system that can be observed in plants.
