A London project awarded in USA

The Guildhall School of Music and Drama at Milton Court, London, was recognised with a Merit Award for its design excellence by the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT).

Aedas Arts Team designed the new facilities for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama at Milton Court, which was opened in September 2013. The Milton Court property provides the school with state-of-the-art performance and teaching spaces including a 608-seat concert hall with large public foyers, a 223-seat theatre, a studio theatre, three major rehearsal rooms, a TV studio suite and other teaching, meeting and administrative spaces.

“We are proud to have delivered a place where students can learn and perform in facilities that emulate the professional world they will soon become part of, but also where world class artists can give recitals and master classes, and discerning audiences can enjoy first class performances,” said Barry Pritchard, Executive Director of Aedas and head of Aedas Arts Team. “We believe it is important that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy and participate in the arts and this is the cornerstone of our design approach.”

Sponsored by the USITT Architecture Commission, the Architecture Awards programme honours excellence in the design of theatre projects. The awards were created in 1994 to recognise architects for superior design work, to increase the interest of architects in USITT, to promote USITT to a larger audience, and to provide resource material for USITT members on contemporary theatre.

Milton Court is also a winner of RIBA London Award 2014.
