Aedas project recognised at A&D Trophy Awards 2016

Aedas-designed Sina Plaza in Beijing, the principal office for Nasdaq-listed SINA Corporation in China, was recognised with a Certificate of Excellence for Architecture (Professional) Commercial, Retail or Office at A&D Trophy Awards 2016.

Designed by Aedas' Global Board Director Ken Wai, Sina Plaza reflects the infinity symbol ‘∞’ to express the concept of ‘limitless’ – as advances in media technology and information flow have opened up unlimited opportunities in the digital world.  Drawing from the Chinese architectural heritage of courtyards, the building frames two major open courtyard gardens for the users.  At the intersection or centre of the building is the main entrance and a focal point – the ‘Eye of Sina’ – an atrium space that serves as the main vertical circulation hub and features a 12-metre high conical media screen which displays current media information by Sina.com and Weibo.

The objective of the architectural planning is to ensure maximum flexibility based on a modular approach that allows reshaping and adjustments as needed. The building houses approximately 55,000 square metres of open office/R&D space, conference and meeting areas, corporation exhibition area, staff amenity areas which include entertainment and leisure facilities, canteens and a supermarket.

The A&D Trophy Awards (formerly called The Perspective Awards) were created in 2004 to celebrate excellence in architecture, interior design and product design across Asia-Pacific and beyond. One of the design industry’s most sought-after accolades, the A&D Trophy Awards aim to promote and motivate industry design standards to the next level in Asia-Pacific.
