Co-designed by Aedas and Shenzhen Bowan Architectural Design Office, the Xi’An Crystal Huixi Plaza sits in the core location of the International Port Area, overlooking the future Olympic Center of the city. The 196,500 sq m project accommodates hotel, residential and office programs in 4 towers, with interlinked podiums below to form a dynamic retail street and public communal space. The design concept of the project is “armor”, inspired by the renowned Terracotta Army. This fusing of historical gravitas and contemporary glimmer is manifested in the facade of the main tower, encapsulating the at once effervescent and domineering characters of the Terracotta armor.By connecting the podiums with the second-story corridor, an elevated walkway system is formed which merges ground to floor traffic. Users could essentially get from point A to point B without so much as feeling a drop of rain or streak of heat. In addition, the carving out of special spaces could help shepherd the flow of people trafficking in subway, and direct the menagerie of energy from all sectors to establishing a vivacious commercial district.
