Aedas-restored Raffles Hotel Singapore is named Best Conservation building at the 19th SIA Architectural Design Award.
Having undergone a three-year restoration and refurbishment, the timeless Raffles Hotel Singapore was officially reopened in August 2019, since its opening in 1887. The delicate treatment involved state-of-the-art restoration techniques to revive the heritage building back to its original glory, enabling it to thrive for the next 100 years. The project utilized restoration techniques and materials to heal the deterioration perpetrated by time while injecting modern technology, such as the latest in-room technology, to better position this enduring heritage hotel in the 21st century. The award is a testament to the exemplary detailing for repair and incisive execution, by which a national icon is preserved.
Aedas led a multi-disciplinary team for the renovation, including heritage consultant Studio Lapis, interior designer Alexandra Champalimaud for the hotel, Jouin Manku for ‘BBR Restaurant by Alain Ducasse’ and Aedas Interiors for the Chinese restaurant ‘Yi by Jereme Leung’ at the hotel.
