Aedas projects by Cary Lau and Steven Thor recognised for design excellence at A&D Trophy Awards 2017

Two Aedas’ projects – Shanghai Landmark Center in China and Asimont Villas in Singapore – were awarded Certificates of Excellence under Best Commercial, Retail or Office and Best Residential categories at this year’s A&D Trophy Awards.

Shanghai Landmark Center, designed by Executive Director Cary Lau, enjoys a prime location with excellent views towards the northern Bund and Huangpu River. In response to the vibrant neighbourhood and low-rise domestic buildings on the east and north, this commercial development retreats from south to north with two towers sitting in the south of the site and the retail components in the north, embracing an open central plaza for food and beverage and various outdoor activities. Inspired by the traditional Chinese windows from the nearby old buildings, the façade design interprets the oriental element in a contemporary language and creates an impressive motif. The contemporary architecture with a sense of humble, oriental touch and overtone serves as a large visual that accentuates the city’s unique history and identity, creating a landmark enjoying the signature Shanghai skyline along the Suzhou Creek.

Asimont Villas, designed by Executive Director Steven Thor, is a residential enclave nestled in the exclusive neighbourhood within the Bukit Timah area in Singapore, occupying a 4,007-square-metre site off Barker Road. The development creates an intimate community of seven clusters of villas within a lush and tranquil garden, with each cluster comprising three villas presenting as a series of ‘frames’ and ‘floating boxes’ to project beautiful scenes of the surrounding tropical garden while allowing filtered daylight.

The A&D Trophy Awards (previously The Perspective Awards) were created in 2004 to celebrate excellence in architecture, interior design and product design across Asia-Pacific and beyond. One of the design industry’s most sought-after accolades, the A&D Trophy Awards aim to promote and motivate industry design standards to the next level in Asia-Pacific.
