Two Aedas projects by Dr Andy Wen, Keith Griffiths and Cary Lau recognised at Global RLI Awards 2019

Aedas-designed Hong Leong City Center and T.O.P - This is Our Place were highly commended for RLI International Shopping Centre 2019 and RLI Shopping Center Renovation 2019 respectively at this year’s Global RLI Awards.

Designed by Global Design Principal Dr Andy Wen and Chairman and Global Design Principal Keith Griffiths, Hong Leong City Center in Suzhou, China, recently opened its doors. This mixed-use urban development in Suzhou Industrial Park combines hotel, office, retail, and serviced apartments programmes into a vibrant lakeside destination. Two residential towers and a serviced apartment tower are combined with a 150-metre office/hotel and a mall. The towers enjoy views towards adjacent Jinji Lake. The façade of the two taller towers are designed in a unified coordination to produce a twin-tower effect. The architectural design embraces the tea culture of the city and reminds people of the famous terraced tea plantations. Horizontal lines dominate the facades and the differences in building heights create a three-dimensional terraced form. The development is porous and highly accessible, with a public landscaped boulevard running across the site from north to south.

Designed by Executive Director Cary Lau, T.O.P - This is Our Place in Hong Kong transforms a 1980s former government complex into a modern office and retail-entertainment hub. The building features a pixelated, colourful podium facade that reflects the signature palette of the underground station connected to the basement level. Targeting the young and young-at-heart, the new atrium provides gathering and performance spaces and connects to a fifth-floor open air performance area. Aedas Interiors was also involved in the design of the office portion.

Organised by UK magazine Retail & Leisure International (RLI), the Global RLI Awards honour and reward the very best projects from the world of retail and leisure.
