Two Aedas projects recognised at HKIA Annual Awards 2019/20

Aedas received two Merit Awards for the Industrial/Transport/Utility category at HKIA Annual Awards this year. They are:

1. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port Passenger Clearance Building, Hong Kong, China (by Chairman and Global Design Principal Keith Griffiths, Global Design Principal Max Connop and Richard Paul, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (Joint Venture Designer))

Aedas and RSHP are the Joint Venture Designers for the Passenger Clearance Building (PCB) of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port. The building houses the customs and immigration facilities for travellers leaving and entering Hong Kong via the bridge. By effectively linking Zhuhai and Macau to Hong Kong through bridging the West and East Pearl River Delta in China, it fosters the flow of people, goods, capital and information amongst the 11 cities of the Greater Bay Area. Beyond that, PCB is energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Designed in the form of waves, the roof of the building emulates the undulating flow of the ocean and serves to let through abundant rays of natural light.

2. Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, Hong Kong, China (by Aedas)

The Hong Kong West Kowloon Station sits on a prominent site immediately adjacent to Victoria Harbour and serves as a gateway to Hong Kong as well as a terminus to the high-speed rail network of Mainland China.

There is an undeniable civic element in the landmark that strives to evoke an immediate sense of arrival, by connecting the station with its surrounding urban environment. Passengers located on all levels in the station are afforded a glimpse of the city from the 4,000 glass panels elevated by the leaning steel columns, capped by a colossal floating roof. This open, people-centric design seamlessly fuses architecture and engineering, reflecting the converging forces that emerges in a global city.

Organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), the HKIA Annual Awards recognises outstanding design in Mainland China, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong.
