Celebrating Excellence

Three Aedas projects – Nanfung Commercial, Hospitality and Exhibition Complex, Center 66 and Sinarmas Land Plaza – received 2014 Cityscape Awards for Emerging Markets for Mixed-use Project (Built), Retail Project (Built) and Commercial Project (Built) respectively.

Designed by Andrew Bromberg of Aedas, Nanfung Commercial, Hospitality and Exhibition Complex contains four distinct programmatic uses – office, retail exhibition, hotel and exhibition – that are split between two different sites separated by another building. The horizontal elements of the towers were accentuated through shifts: the smaller ones in the north/south direction, and larger ones in the east/west direction. They animate the buildings and maximise the dialogue between the two project sites, leaping over the middle neighbour and creating a dynamic, unified and powerful expression to this exhibition complex.

Center 66, designed by Executive Directors Christine Lam and David Clayton, is a mixed-use development in Wuxi, China. It consists of two office towers and the city’s largest shopping mall. The three striking glass atria enclosing the mall evolve as the ideal response to the site’s circulation patterns, distribution of natural light, and arrangement of volumes. The project also preserved two historic theatre stages and a hall dating from the Ming dynasty at the heart of the site and integrated them into a large public plaza.

Located in the BSD Green Office Park in Jakarta, Sinarmas Land Plaza is the head office building for Sinarmas Real Estate. Most common areas within the building, including the entire atrium, lift lobbies and toilets, are naturally ventilated. Designed by Global Board Director Kevin Jose, the two building wings follow a strict north–south orientation to minimise solar heat gain, with a central, natural ventilated atrium orientated towards the west to catch the prevailing wind.

Nanfung Commercial, Hospitality and Exhibition Complex and Center 66 are also winners of International Architecture Awards 2014 given by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design last month.
Celebrating excellence in real estate development and architecture, the 2014 Cityscape Awards for Emerging Markets offer international architects and leading real estate developers a prestigious platform from which to communicate a shared vision for the future, from culturally integrated city skylines to sustainable urban communities.
