Complementing Life with Diverse Designs

The Star, a building comprises a 5,000-seat auditorium and an open air mall in Singapore designed by Andrew Bromberg of Aedas, is the only award winner in the Building Outside Hong Kong (Region outside Mainland China, Taiwan & Macau) category at Quality Building Award 2014, receiving a Merit Award.

The Star celebrates the rich and diverse happenings inside the building with a multi-faceted, permeable and dynamic design, blurring the boundaries between public and private realms as well as retail and cultural components. The 62,000-square-metre development comprises a cultural zone The Star Performing Arts Centre and a retail and entertainment zone The Star Vista. The south elevation is completely opened up and its facilities are clearly visible from outside, making it an organic object opening to public discovery.
All circulations, movements and internal forms are soft and sinuous as if the civic activities have shaped the inside of the complex.

The Quality Building Award, co-organised by 10 professional real estate-related bodies in Hong Kong including the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, is a biennial award giving public recognition to buildings of outstanding quality that demonstrate excellent teamwork. The provision of quality buildings is an essential ingredient of a prosperous and modern society and the Quality Building Award aims to promote a collective commitment by the building industry to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and competitiveness.
