The refurbished former Holloway Hall building of 1872 gave the NYT, for the first time in its 42 year existence, a purpose-designed headquarters. Although spacious, the original gloomy building did not provide the right conditions for the NYT’s work or reflect its identity. It has now been radically modified to provide a series of practical teaching and workshop spaces in a bright, stimulating environment. The rebuilding of the central stairwell has affected all areas of the building, opening up new views of working spaces and introducing natural light throughout. Robust and colourful finishes are a unifying theme, a concept developed in response to both the client and members of the NYT. We provided new rehearsal and music practice rooms, as well as electrical workshop, sound and photographic studios, green room, costume, scenery and prop-making workshops with storage facilities, conferenceroom, offi ces and informal social spaces. The company provides a range of courses for 16 to 21-year-old students with no formal performing arts experience.
