The vision was to enhance an already world class development at Montecasino with additional attractions for tourism. The new multi-functional piazza is enclosed by a 200 room hotel and restaurants. The jewel in the crown is the 1900 seat musical theatre facing the piazza and with a covered link to the Casino itself.Vibrant activity within the foyers is highly visible from the piazza particularly at night through the large glazed opening above the entrance doors framed with bronze. The large curving wall of the auditorium of polished Venetian red plaster forms a powerful presence. People are seen in silhouette against the shimmering bars. Small bridges connect to doors into the rear of stalls from the first floor level. Throughout the audience can see and be seen as they move through the foyer spaces. The auditorium is designed primarily for large scale musical theatre with an audience capacity of 1900 at stalls and circle level together with side boxes. Other uses with amplified sound will be possible e.g. cabaret, conferences, pop music, dance to amplified music, jazz and amplified world music.Arts Team worked in close collaboration with Martin McCallum as associate designer throughout, and to the demanding brief of Disney for the opening production of The Lion King.
