Originally designed by architect William Sprague in 1899, this Grade II* listed theatre has its original charm restored with Arts Team carrying out significant aesthetic and technical improvements to the building, both front and back of house.The auditorium has been redecorated and remains true to the original Louis XVI style. Murals, cornices and plasterwork have all been revitalised and seats have been re-upholstered. The fourth side of the proscenium has been reinstated to complete the picture frame around the stage and the auditorium capacity has been increased from 780 to 799. In order to meet the demands of 21st century productions, Wyndham’s backstage facilities have been upgraded, with major technical improvements to the stagehouse and flytower. A new production lighting and sound system has been installed. Front of house facilities have also benefited from refurbishment, continuing the distinctive blue, cream and gold colour scheme from the auditorium throughout the main foyer, stalls and dress circle bars.
