Aedas was commissioned to develop concept schemes for 5 elevated Jakarta LRT stations and a depot with over-site development concepts. The stations span the central canal through a mixed residential and commercial precinct of northern Jakarta, threading through streets characterised by 4 to 5-storey developments, mature tree canopies, and active ground-level movement.
The design responds directly to this context – back-of-house and service facilities are located at ground level along the road median, occupying a volume that typically offers little amenity in elevated stations. This strategy allows the viaduct and platforms to sit at L1 above the road, minimising visual impact and construction cost while keeping the station’s bulk light and open overhead.
Street-level entrances extend simply onto narrow footpaths with minimal disruption to pedestrian flow. At L2 and L3, the stations are positioned to interconnect with adjoining developments, maximising connectivity across the precinct. As the surrounding streetscape matures, both stations and viaducts are designed to be absorbed into the tropical tree canopy, becoming a considered part of the urban landscape rather than an imposition upon it.
