The interior design of The Portman Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Shanghai followed historical references to the city as a melting pot of different cultures from the east and west. Space planning for the renovation of the suites was particularly challenging owing to the existence of pipe and duct chases which had to be retained. The result was unique layouts of suite bathrooms, responsive to clientele convenience.
