Aedas has designed numerous projects for Chengdu over the years, including master planning, mixed-use, hotels, offices, and residential properties such as the Huazhi Plaza, St. Regis Chengdu, and the upcoming Greenland East Village CBED plots and Vanke Tianfu Cloud City.
Frank first explained the design philosophy of Aedas, “We are not only providing world-class design solutions, but also focusing on the actual context and culture of the cities we are designing for. Otherwise the buildings designed are lifeless and meaningless. It is because of this global vision and the concern for local context that make Aedas a diverse global design company.”
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is a highlight in Chengdu’s new city planning and is of crucial importance to the city development. Aedas participated in the design competition for the airport. Max, Aedas’ Infrastructure expert, talked about how to design a successful airport.
Max addressed that the most important focus in airport design is to pay attention to user experience. In fact, this is of great importance in the design of other types of architecture. When we design airport spaces and connections, we take into consideration the local cultural characteristics to respond to and reflect the cities.
Meanwhile, the efficiency of the airport is also very important. For instance, whether transits are convenient; the pedestrian flow of the airport is smooth; or the shopping, dining, leisure and entertainment facilities are enough. These elements are all very important to airports and will determine if travelers will choose to use particular airports.
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport plays an important role in the overall airport planning in China. In the new master plan of Chengdu city, the airport plays an important role. This made Chengdu the fourth aviation city in China, following Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. In China, few cities owns two large-scale airports. This made Chengdu a gateway to China’s western territory, a key node in China’s Belt and Road strategic framework.
