Aedas Chairman and Global Design Principal Keith Griffiths was invited to speak as a keynote speaker at the Super Tall Building and Urban Renewal International Summit 2017 organised by China International Exchange Committee Tall Buildings (CITAB) in Chongqing. Keith shared his viewpoints on the ‘Cultural Responsibility of Super High-rise’ on Thursday 21 September.
Super high-rise buildings are city icons, representing the unique cultural spirits of the cities. Keith compared city icons of the East and West and reviewed the development of architectural styles. Taking Aedas’ super high-rise projects as examples, he discussed how cities like Chongqing, during urban regeneration, can balance the needs between functionality and humanity such as culture, sustainability, society, climate and geography.
Keith explained with three Aedas super high-rise projects, namely Chongqing Xinhua Bookstore Group Jiefangbei Book City Mixed-use Project in Chongqing, Hengqing International Financial Center in Zhuhai and Greenland Twin Crane Lake High-rise Twin Tower in Zhengzhou. These projects respond to the local context, as Aedas always strives to create world-class design solutions that are tailored to the needs of the communities around the world.
After his presentation, Keith was interviewed by a number of Chongqing’s media including Chongqing Television, Watch magazine and Chongqing News to share his points-of-view on the designing of super high-rises.
