Yiwu, the ‘World’s Capital of Small Commodities,’ is transforming from domestic to global trade with the Suxi International Gateway Port as its core engine. Aedas, in a consortium with CCCC Water Transportation Consultants, won the international competition for the masterplan and urban design, and the detailed integration is now underway.
The project breaks conventional urban design paradigms by deeply coupling spatial planning with port engineering, creating a resilient ‘space operating system’ for the ‘port–industry–city’ complex. Three core strategies – strengthening the port foundation, industrial synergies, and sub‑center development – introduce functional front‑loading, three‑dimensional transport, bonded zone optimization, a ‘4+X’ industrial ecosystem, and phased regeneration.
