In the past, rail stations served the role of connecting people with places, but railway lines often became obstacles by cutting across and dividing the city. After a century of urban development, a new model of TOD, which we call it ‘Integrated Rail and Commercial Hub’, has particularly transformed high-density developments into well-connected city hubs. Utilising the powerful attraction of the new Integrated Rail-Road-Commercial Developments, multiple functions of a city can be weaved together, connecting the urban at multiple levels.
With the rapid expansion of intercity and inner-city lines of China, this integrated development model has become widespread. By carefully considering the diversity of the Chinese cities, we have created some Integrated Rail and Commercial Hubs tailored to the local environment, such as Humen High Speed Rail Station, Chengdu Tianfu New Station TOD project, Shenzhen Xili Integrated Transportation Hub.
By connecting the stations and TOD development with major pedestrian networks crossing into the city, it enhances and irrigates the entire city infrastructure – the Departure Hall will sit above the railway, accessible from each direction of the city, whilst the Arrival Hall shall sit below to interconnect with metro stations, road system and the city.
Each of these tailored TOD designs is our response to a more connected and convenient, green and sustainable urban space for our communities in the new era.
